# FirstPass

> A mobile-first reader and discovery app for full arXiv papers on iPhone and iPad.

FirstPass covers the entire arXiv archive and updates its catalog daily. Any arXiv link can open directly in FirstPass.
Papers with supported HTML open in a mobile-first reading view; the original PDF remains available as a fallback.

Readers can preview inline references, figures, tables, and equations without leaving the passage they are reading. FirstPass supports highlights and notes, collects them in Library, and returns readers to the exact passage.
FirstPass includes Briefs, Feeds, Radars, author pages, Smart Folders, hybrid search, and Advanced Search.

FirstPass is local-first and does not require a FirstPass account.
Library data, likes, reading state, highlights, notes, preferences, cached files, and generated Briefs are stored on the device.
Server-backed features may send search text, filters, paper identifiers, and limited highlighted passage text needed to answer a request; notes are not sent to the embedding server.
When iCloud sync is enabled, supported Library data and reading state sync through the user's private iCloud database.
Optional in-app product analytics are off until the user explicitly enables them and exclude paper identities and content, search text, notes, highlights, links, location fields, purchase data, and lasting user or device identifiers.

The reader is free; FirstPass Plus adds iCloud sync, offline reading, unlimited monitoring, Guided Skim, pinned papers, on-device explanations on supported devices, Markdown and Obsidian export, and Library connections.
Eligible users may start one 14-day Plus trial with no payment and no automatic renewal; it requires internet access and an available iCloud account.
